Sometime in 2023, users will be required to have a Google account in order to utilize Fitbit devices.
There will be support for accounts until the beginning of 2025, however after that a Google account must be used to sign in. New features will be available, including those that incorporate the company’s products and services, for example Google Assistant.
The transition from Fitbit to the Alphabet based company will require users to move their personal data from one service to the other. This new policy is similar to the changes made in 2019, which were implemented after the tech giant acquired Nest.
While the integration of services may come as a surprise to some, the search engine giant noted that they will not be taking personal information from users for advertising purposes.
In total, Google has made 240 acquisitions and 161 investments.
